Comment Policy

I appreciate thoughtful comments and feedback on my posts. Commenters often point out things that I’ve missed or provide opposing views that make me reconsider my own, and discussions can end up going in interesting directions.

But as you comment, remember that this is my personal site and that I operate it at my own cost. I reserve the right to edit or delete comments that, in my opinion, detract from the discussion.

As you comment, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Stay on topic. If you have a question or comment that isn’t related to the post you’re commenting on, you might want to use the contact page.
  • Be polite. If you think someone has made a bad argument, address the argument; don’t attack the person making it.
  • Don’t spam. Promotional comments and links to affiliate websites will be deleted.
  • Contribute. I welcome constructive disagreement, so if you think I’ve made a bad argument or have overlooked something important, please let me know. (But do it politely, of course.) But if it seems that you’re just here to antagonize without considering evidence, acknowledging your logical fallacies, or accepting the burden of proof for your claims, then I’ll conclude that you’re not here to argue in good faith.

If you post spam or attack me or others in a comment, I will likely just delete your comment without warning. If you otherwise violate these guidelines, I may warn you in a comment first. If you continue to violate them, I’ll put your comments in the moderation queue, and you may be banned from commenting in the future.
